Bunnell, FL - A couple of years after the old facility was evacuated, Flagler County plans to break ground on the new Flagler Sheriff's Operations Center.

This comes two years after the Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) left the "sick" building that used to serve as the operations center. Since their departure, the Sheriff's Office has been split among different areas, including the Flagler County Courthouse, where the agency is currently headquartered.

The new facility, which is estimate to cost just over $20 million, will be located on 8.41 acres near the Government Services Complex on Commerce Drive off of State Road 100. The main building will be around 51,615 square feet with future expansion capabilities for an additional 30,000 square feet. The groundbreaking ceremony is set to take place Wednesday, December 16th at 9 a.m. in Bunnell.

“This groundbreaking is a monumental step forward for the Sheriff’s Office. When completed, this new building will allow us to better serve our community and have a more efficient, effective, and reliable building for our employees to work from for decades to come,” said Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly. “I am grateful for the Board of County Commissioners, County Administrator (Jerry) Cameron and the design and construction team for working together to make this day possible.”

The architect, ADG (Architects Design Group) of Winter Park, has contributed to more than 350 public safety projects throughout the state and the country. It has worked on several of those projects with Ajax, a construction contractor out of Jacksonville that is also working on this project.

The public is invited to attend the groundbreaking ceremony with appropriate safety protocols followed.
