Amendment 10 Goes Into Effect Tomorrow

DeLand, FL - Amendment 10, which requires that all 67 counties must elect their sheriff, tax collector, elections supervisor, property appraiser, and clerk of courts, goes into effect in Volusia County tomorrow (January 5). Also taking place tomorrow is newly-elected tax collector Will Roberts Oath of Office ceremony. He's the first elected tax collector in 50 years and he'll be sworn in on the Volusia County Historic Courthouse Steps at 10:30 a.m.

Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis said while Roberts is coming into something completely new, she's already taken her oath of office, this time without a ceremony. "I actually did take my oath of office. One of my employees who's a notary administered it to me and I have sent it to the state.  So I'm not necessarily having a ceremonial oath of office this time."

Amendment 10  won't have much effect on Elections Office operations, according to Lewis.  "I have opted to contract with the county to handle our payroll, our human resources, the purchasing that we may need to do, the contracts, legal. We're pretty much the same. Nobody on the outside really sees a difference."
