Former Ormond Beach Teacher Sentenced In Child Porn Case

Jacksonville, FL - A man convicted of distributing child porn on the internet is sentenced to nine years and two months in federal prison. A United States District Judge handed down that sentence yesterday (October 24) to 38-year-old Jordan Frederic Schemmel. He's also sentenced to a 10-year term of supervised release and ordered to register as a sex offender upon his release.

Schemmel's downfall began in September 2018, when, according to court documents, he responded to a message on an internet bulletin board that came from an undercover FBI agent. That message board is for people with a sexual interest in children and incest.  Schemmel started an online conversation about his sexual interest in children between the ages of 9 and 13. He sent a video to the agent that depicted a young child being sexually assaulted by an adult male, and later sent a photo depicting similar criminal conduct with a child. During this time, Schemmel was a teacher at Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville.

In October of 2018, a search warrant was executed by FBI agents and other law enforcement agencies at Schemmel's residence in Jacksonville. During an interview, he told investigators about his interest in incest and bestiality. He admitted to sending the video but also said he tried unsuccessfully to stop viewing child pornography.

Forensic examination of Schemmel's smartphone and a USB thumb drive found 102 images and 28 videos depicting child pornography, several of which depicted the sadistic sexual abuse of young children.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says this is another case brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
