Bunnell, FL - Four candidates are moving on as finalists for Flagler County Schools Superintendent.  They are listed in the numeric order of their application submission: Vernon Orndorff from Texas, Dr. Earl Johnson, who is already part of Flagler Schools, Cathy Mittelstadt, from the St. Johns County School District, and Dr. Janet S. Womack from Texas. You can see their resumes at flaglerschools.com

The candidates have been notified of their selection and will begin interviews next week on Thursday, March 5. A public interview process will take place that day by the full School Board. This takes place between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. While one candidate is being interviewed, the others will tour Flagler County and a number of our school campuses and facilities.

Following the interviews, a two-hour Community Meet and Greet begins at 6 p.m., giving the public the chance to meet the finalists.  It will take place at the Buddy Taylor Middle School Cafeteria, 4500 Belle Terre Blvd, Palm Coast.

The next day, Friday, March 6, the finalists will meet with each School Board member in a one-on-one setting. This is not open to the public.

On Tuesday, March 10, the School Board will hold a special meeting at 1 p.m. where they will discuss the candidates and make their final selection of the next superintendent. Then, it's on to contract negotiations with the Board expected to approve a contract with the new Superintendent candidate at its March 17th regularly scheduled business meeting at 6 p.m. in the Board Chambers at the Government Services Building in Bunnell.

The projected start date for the new Superintendent is June 1. Retiring Superintendent James Tager's last day is scheduled for June 30.
