Gas Demand Up While Prices Fall Slightly

Daytona Beach, FL - According to Triple-A Florida, gas prices are at their lowest since early March but on LPGA Boulevard, there’s a gas price war going on.

With Buc-ees holding prices at $2.56 for a gallon of regular, Sam’s Club is matching the price and two other stations are priced at $2.59 per gallon.

Triple-A spokesperson Mark Jenkins said current prices are similar in other parts of the county to what drivers paid in April 2019. "The average price around the state right now is $2.79. If you want to compare the current price to two years ago when conditions were a little more typical, we're just about five to ten cents more."

Jenkins also said fuel demand has returned to its highest level since the last week of October 2020. "A lot of people are driving again due to the vaccine being more widespread. People are a little more optimistic about the current situation. Many of them are back on the road, some of them are even traveling again so that's helping to boost up demand."

Improved refinery operations have most of them back up to full operation, according to Jenkins. He said they're now pumping out gasoline at a rate not seen since autumn.
