Daytona Beach, FL - The lifting of the stay-at-home order is expected to increase consumer demand for oil and bring prices up.
"The phased reopening of businesses and restaurants will signal a return to the road for many Florida drivers," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA - The Auto Club Group. "Gas prices have plummeted 65 cents in the past 10 weeks. While the increased demand may not cause a pump price surge, it may signal the eventual end of the plunge at the pump."
Jenkins said crude oil price jumped by about 60 percent last week, to $19.78 per barrel, the highest daily settlement in two weeks. At the moment, Florida gas prices average $1.77 for a gallon of regular gas. That's the lowest price in four years. In Volusia County, the average is $1.75 and in Flagler, the average is $1.78.
