Daytona Beach, FL - As of Monday, Halifax Health is reporting 162 patients who are COVID-19 positive. John Guthrie, Vice President of Communications for the hospital system, said that as of today, none of them are children. (August 17)
Guthrie said that 31 of the patients are vaccinated but all of them either have comorbidities or are older. "Of the patients we're seeing, who are coming in, who've been vaccinated, many have other health issues and many are older in age meaning that the younger folks who have been vaccinated don't tend to be the ones we see."
With regards to the pediatric population, Guthrie said "We've seen a few cases but no ICU cases, and we're very thankful for that." He said the message is the same for children as it is for adults, "Get vaccinated, wear a mask, social distance, and do everything we can to stop the transmission."
