Daytona Beach, FL - As each week passes, more cases of Hepatitis A are reported in Florida. Between October 27 and November 2, seven more cases were reported in Volusia County, bringing the annual total to 269.
A Public Health Emergency declared in the state of Florida on August 1 is in reaction to the alarming increase of Hepatitis A cases. As of today, there are only nine counties with no reported cases.
Officials say that vaccination is the best prevention. Contact your local Department of Health for more information. Washing your hands with warm water and soap is a good step towards prevention.
Symptoms are flu-like, only worse, according to officials. Those most at risk include the homeless, drug users and those who care for them.
