A Holly Hill man was arrested on Thursday after allegedly running over a senior at the beach with his e-bike and fleeing the scene. 42-year-old Frederick Rich was charges with leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and violation of probation.

The incident reportedly occurred near the Main Street Pier in Daytona Beach. Rich was said to have collided with a 70-year-old woman causing serious injuries. The woman was said to have been going in and out of consciousness in the immediate aftermath of the strike.

Though she was initially described as being in unstable condition, the victim is said to have regained her consciousness after the crash. She was hospitalized with a broken leg, and reportedly saw improvements in her condition while being treated.

Rich, meanwhile, was accused by the Volusia Sheriff's Office of ditching his bike near the pier and trying to leave the scene. Deputies gathered descriptions from witnesses and, along with surveillance footage, were able to track him down nearby.

For his two charges Rich was denised bond after being booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail. He remains in custody as of Monday morning.
