Daytona Beach, FL - A homeowner escapes a house fire after his neighbor rushed over to wake him up and get him out of the house.

Units from Daytona Beach and South Daytona were called to the Palm Place home just before 11:00 a.m. on Monday (November 2nd). When rescue units arrived, they were met with heavy smoke and flames that were coming out of the home.

According to the Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD), the homeowner was asleep in the house prior to their arrival. A neighbor who noticed the smoke quickly rushed over and woke him up. He evacuated the home and was uninjured.

The fire reportedly started in the utility room/laundry room area of the home, but the actual cause of the fire is still under investigation.

DBFD further added that the Red Cross was called to assist the homeowner and another tenant—who was not home at the time of the fire—as the house has been deemed unlivable.
