DeLand, FL - A house fire that appears to be accidental claims the life of a 76-year-old DeLand man.

Deputies with the Volusia Sheriff's Office responded to the scene off of Woodland Circle just prior to 8 p.m. on Saturday (August 15th) as DeLand and Volusia County Fire Rescue units were working to control the flames.

An occupant of the house, later identified as John Schauber Jr., was removed from the living room of the home before he was transported to AdventHealth DeLand. Schauber Jr. was later pronounced dead.

No signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances were observed. According to investigators, the initial evidence suggests that the fire was "accidental and electrical in nature," per a report released by the Sheriff's Office.
