Daytona Beach, FL - Jury selection for the trial of a man accused of killing several women begins in Daytona Beach.

Robert Hayes is officially facing three counts of first-degree murder with a firearm for the deaths of LaQuetta Gunther, Julie Ann Green, and Iwana Patton. Those charges each carry a mandatory life sentence, but the state already filed its intent to seek the death penalty.

Hayes made his first 2022 appearance in court back in January via Zoom as Judge Raul Zambrano weighed in on 10 motions filed by defense and prosecution; including one motion one that will exclude another woman’s death from playing a part in this trial.

His arrest in South Florida cane in September 2020 after investigators connected him to the 2016 murder of Elizabeth Bey. DNA recovered from that investigation eventually drew investigators closer to Hayes, as the evidence matched DNA from two of the three Daytona Beach murders involving Green, Gunther, and Patton.
