Daytona Beach, FL - The woman Daytona Beach Police say beat her patient to death after taking out a life insurance policy on his life is in court for a jury trial today.

Diane Reid, of Daytona Beach, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Pernell Robinson, who suffered from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

The crime was committed in July 2017, after Reid had taken out a life insurance policy on Robinson. Police say Reid told them Robinson was missing for three days when she found him with dry blood on him on the front porch.

Reid said she took him in the house and later found him lying on the floor. She said he was not breathing and attempted CPR before calling the police. During the 911 call, Reid said, "Somebody did something to him!"

Investigators say Robinson died of blunt force drama. Reid has been in the Volusia County Jail since December 2017.
