Learn More About The St. Johns River- Virtually

Palatka, FL - The St. Johns River is one of the few that flows north to south. You can learn more about why that is and more about the river itself through a virtual tour from the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD).

The virtual journey of the St. Johns is part of a multimedia series exploring the sights, sounds, and history of the St. Johns River as well the science-based work the District carries out to protect and restore the waterway. It was created by the staff of the District's online news magazine, StreamLines

The 310 miles of the St. Johns River is a designated American Heritage River and an important water supply source that supports a variety of native and endangered plants and animals as it flows from Indian River County north to Mayport.

The first part of the series, focusing on the District’s historic project with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to restore the river’s headwaters in the southern part of the District, is available on the magazine's website.

The StreamLines series will continue through 2021 ending — as the St. Johns River does — at the Atlantic Ocean in Mayport, Fla.
