Palm Coast, FL - A Flagler County man continues his stay in jail after he was arrested over the weekend for threatening his wife and son with a firearm.
Flagler County deputies were first made aware of the incident close to 10:30 Saturday night (May 9th) after multiple reports of a disturbance with weapons.
Law enforcement soon arrived and met with the victims, who claimed that their husband and father, 41-year-old Larry Batson, pulled out a gun while riding in a car and pointed at both of them before saying "you wanna die?"
The investigation later determined that a domestic disturbance led to the altercation. According to investigators, Batson demanded that they return to the home to pick up his dog but when his wife refused to turn the car around, he pulled out the firearm.
During the altercation, the wife grabbed his firearm and was able to take it and throw it out a window. After that, Batson left the vehicle and fled on foot.
Two deputies – including a K9 unit – arrived shortly thereafter and located the suspect’s firearm concealed near the wood line. Additionally, Air One from the Volusia Sheriff's Office was called in to assist with the search for Batson.
During their search, a resident in the area called dispatch and reported a person running on foot through a residential area on Emmons Lane. Deputies responded to the area and began to issue warnings to anyone in the area to announce themselves or a K9 would be sent in.
Batson immediately exited his hiding spot and surrendered to deputies without incident.
He's now charged with possession of a concealed firearm and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence. Additionally, Batson was also charged with resisting arrest for hiding from deputies.
Batson remains in Flagler County Jail, held on a $15,000 bond.
