Volusia County, FL - A suspect on a domestic violence call grabs a Volusia deputy's gun and tries to take their Taser, all while holding a child in their arms.

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood says 32-year-old Rayshawn George is now charged with child abuse, battery, and depriving an officer of means of protection after Monday’s (Oct. 4) incident, which was all caught on the deputy’s body camera.

Sheriff Chitwood posted the video from his agency’s encounter with George on Facebook. In the video, the deputy, who Sheriff Chitwood has identified as Deputy Antonio Fernandez, can be seen approaching George during the domestic violence incident. George then began to reach for the deputy’s gun.

“Had he gotten that gun or Taser, I would be right here defending whatever force it took to get this deputy home safe,” wrote the sheriff. “Thank God it didn't come to that.”

Deputy Fernandez was hired by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office earlier this year.

The child was taken to a hospital to be checked out following the incident. George remains in custody as of Wednesday (Oct. 6) with bond set at $9,500. According to the Volusia County Clerk of Courts, George is set to be arraigned on October 28.

The video contains strong language and scene that might upset some viewers. The video can be found on the VSO Facebook page (click here).
