Man Who Wrote Apology Letter To Child Sex Victim Back In Court

DeLand, FL - The man who wrote an apology letter to his young victim is back in court on Monday.

According to the Volusia County Clerk of Courts, Wes Brough is back in court in DeLand for a criminal status hearing. He’s been sitting in the Volusia County Branch Jail since his April 2021 arrest, which saw him charged with sexual battery on a child.

He’s also charged with failing to properly register as a sex offender. Usually, that would carry a bond of about $5,000, but Brough will be kept in custody with no bond because of his other charge.

Brough has been in court about nine times since his arrest. His case has been continued by the defense about six of those times.

His arrest came after investigators received a tip about Brough uploading suspected child pornography to the internet. The files in question actually depicted Brough engaging in sexual acts with a 5-year-old female. He eventually confessed to the crime while talking to investigators, revealing that he last had inappropriate contact with the victim just four days before he spoke to detectives.

He also wrote an apology letter to his victims, saying: “I’m sorry for everything I ever did bad to u (sic) I feel bad for what I did. From Uncle Wes.”

News Daytona Beach has reached out to the State Attorney’s Office for an update on Brough’s hearing. We’re still waiting on a response.
