NHC: Eta Eyeing Possible Turn Towards Cuba, Florida

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - Tropical Storm Eta continues its march over Central America as forecasters predict a possible turn that could put Florida it its path.

Currently, forecaster from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) predict a west-northwestward motion throughout Wednesday (November 4th) and into Thursday. From there, the forecast predicts a north and northeast turn to occur between Thursday night and Friday morning, which will put the storm back over the Caribbean Sea.

Throughout that time, Eta—which hit Central America as a Category 4 Hurricane—is expected to weaken from Tropical Storm status down to Tropical Depression. However, if Eta does make a turn and continue over the Caribbean Sea, the storm is then expected to strengthen back into tropical storm strength.

If the forecast remains relatively unchanged, Eta will continue away from Central America and continue towards Cuba, where its expected to pass between Sunday and Monday. Florida also remains within that track, but the state will most likely not see anything until Monday. Again, that's if the track remains relatively unchanged.

As of right now, Eta has maximum sustained winds near 50 mph with higher gusts as it moves towards the west near 7 mph. Winds currently extend outward up to 115 miles, mainly to the east of the center.

News Daytona Beach will monitor the progress of the storm throughout the week and provide updates when needed.
