NSB Man Found Guilty On Three Felonies Involving A Child

Daytona Beach, FL - After nearly a year of court actions and continuances, ending with a two-day trial, 25-year-old Derick Jones, Jr., of New Smyrna Beach, was found guilty of three separate felonies today (September 22). It took the Volusia County Jury a little over an hour to find Jones Guilty as Charged of two counts of Unlawful Sexual Activity with a Minor, and one count of Promoting Sexual Performance by a Child.

Charges in this case stemmed from multiple sexual encounters between Jones and our victim, followed by attempts to harass and threaten her. Jones also provided the minor victim drugs on numerous occasions.

Jones has been in the Volusia County Jail several times, on drug, assault, and violation of probation charges. He's already served prison time and was released about six weeks before being arrested on 10-12-20. Sentencing is scheduled exactly one year from the arrest on October 12, 2021. Jones faces up to 45 years in prison.
