UPDATE 2:05 pm: Police have clarified that the boy was eight years old, not ten.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - One child was tragically killed when a car crashed into a canal in South Daytona Wednesday night. Another child was airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital from the scene. Police responded at around 7:30 pm to the incident, which took place on Lantern Drive.

The car had flipped over into the canal by the time responders arrived, with two children and on adult inside. The adult occupant is listed as being in critical condition as of early Thursday afternoon. The exact circumstances of the crash are currently unknown, but police currently believe the car hit a curb, leading it to go into the canal. The boy who was killed was only eight years old.

Just back in July, a family of four crashed into a retention in Daytona shortly before they were supposed to move into a new home nearby. The mother and one of their two children died as a result of that crash, which occurred at the Beville Road off-ramp from I-95.
