Daytona Beach, FL - One man is hospitalized and another is in the custody of the Daytona Beach Police Department following a shooting on Main Street—one of Bike Week’s main hubs.

A report from the police department says the shooting happened sometime around midnight on Sunday (March 6) near Fern Lane between Main Street and Harvey Avenue. The preliminary investigation suggests two men—who remain unidentified—got into a fight near the intersection of Main and Atlantic Avenue/A1A before the shooting happened. Investigators are still determining the motive behind the fight.

According to the DBPD, one of the men may have been sucker-punched by the other. When the man who was sucker-punched was leaving with a friend, the other man involved in the fight approached them with a firearm in hand and tried to rob them. That’s when the friend—who was also armed—pulled out his gun and fired, hitting the attacker in the chest.

That man was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment, and currently remains there in stable condition.

No one has been charged at this time as detectives continue to investigate and search for witnesses. The man who was detained by police is said to be cooperating.
