Palm Coast, FL - A special election will be scheduled in Palm Coast after Mayor Milissa Holland, who was reelected in November, announced she is resigning effective immediately.

Holland made the announcement through a post on her personal Facebook page. Per Holland, she is stepping down to take care of her daughter, citing health concerns as the reason for her departure.

"Although she was able to receive the tremendous gift of a liver that ultimately saved her life, she has had some unexpected setbacks that have required some additional levels of care and as her primary caregiver and of course her Mom, I began the process of assessing and evaluating where I must spend my time and focus and that is right by her side," wrote Holland.

Holland was reelected as mayor following the 2020 General Election where she beat out opponent Alan Lowe with 52.55% of the vote.

Palm Coast's City Charter requires that a special election be held within 30 days. The city and the county's elections office have yet to announce a date.
