Person Of Interest In Sex Offender Murder In Custody

Daytona Beach, FL - A man listed as a 'person of interest' in the death of a registered sex offender is in custody. The Volusia Sheriff's Office reports that 52-year-old Wayne Hibbs is now in the Volusia County Jail.

Investigators were looking for Hibbs after his roommate, 69-year-old Marc Pinder, was found dead in his room at the Speedway Motel, which is home to more than 30 registered sex offenders. They were also looking for Pinder's car and found it at Richard's Towing in DeLand, where Hibbs works. Hibbs was interviewed, saying that he had permission to use the car. Detectives say he wasn't telling the truth as probation stipulation does not allow him to drive.

After that, Hibbs cut off his ankle monitor and disappeared.  The monitor was found in a trash can at the Wawa gas station on U.S. 1 near International Speedway Boulevard in Daytona Beach. At this time, there's no word on where he was apprehended.

Hibbs is being held without bond on a parole violation. It's unclear if he will be charged with anything pertaining to Pinder's death, though it is being investigated as a suicide.
