Port Orange Animal Control Asking For The Public's Help

Posted

Port Orange, FL - The Port Orange Anti-Tethering ordinance has been in effect since December 2020 but for it to be enforced, Port Orange Animal Control (POAC) is asking anyone who sees an animal being left tied up outdoors all day & night or in any other form of distress, to call the law enforcement non-emergency dispatch number at (386) 248-1777. You do not have to give your name.

The ordinance, 2020-38, added definitions of adequate food, water, and shelter and added regulations to tethering dogs or cats to stationary objects while outdoors.

The best way to make sure a problem is responded to is by calling the law enforcement non-emergency dispatch number at (386) 248-1777. POAC says that "leaving a voice message on the Animal Control Unit office line, sending an email, or calling the Halifax Humane Society or any other animal advocacy group can, without doubt, be helpful, but will not guarantee that our personnel will get the information in a timely manner."

POAC says that by calling the dispatch center, personnel can get to the issue in a timely manner and helps to keep track of the history at a given location. That information is especially important for repeat violations.

The non-emergency dispatch number is the place to call for any city or county ordinance violations.
