Port Orange, FL - The Port Orange City Council is holding a workshop this afternoon to discuss the city's feral cat program. A presentation with recommendations on how to reduce the size of the city's feral cat population is on the agenda.

The recommendations by city staff include adopting a contract with Redinger Clinic, a mandatory periodic colony census, insource management of the TNR program, required training for colony caregivers and the adoption of a feeding ordinance.

Other recommendations include increasing the penalty for pet abandonment, the suggestion to landlords to obtain spay/neuter documents, an increase to the city's pet licensing fee to support TNR and last but not least, offering a low-cost spay/neuter program.

City staff has put a lot of work into these recommendations, interviewing colony caregivers in the city. Today's meeting begins at 5:15 p.m.
