Port Orange Police Chief Thomas Grimaldi Announces Retirement

Port Orange, FL Thomas Grimaldi, who has served as Port Orange's chief for over five years, announces that he will retire come next month.

According to an email from the city, Grimaldi's retirement will be effective June 11.

“I am very thankful for the opportunities that I have been given to serve the citizens of Port Orange, Volusia County and the surrounding areas,” said Chief Grimaldi.

Chief Grimaldi was hired by Port Orange in 2015 after the city's former police chief, Gerald Monahan Jr., retired after 16 years of service.

Before starting his tenure at Port Orange, Chief Grimaldi was a 26-year veteran of the Bristol Police Department in Connecticut, where he also served as the department’s Chief of Police for three years and was awarded numerous accolades during his career.

Chief Grimaldi is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has completed executive level training courses with the Southern Police Institute.

The City of Port Orange said information about an interim police chief will be announced at a further date.
