DeLand, FL - A recount for a DeBary referendum regarding budget and extension of the borrowing period begins this morning at 9 a.m. The Volusia County Canvassing Board ordered the recount, officially acting on the results of the November 3, 2020, General Election.
The unofficial number of votes cast on the issue is 11,738. Yes votes approving the referendum total 5,860 or 49.92 percent. No votes not approving the referendum total 5,878 or 50.08 percent.
According to Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis, due to the difference being half a percent or less, Florida Statute calls for a machine recount. After the machine recount, a 1⁄4 percent difference will warrant a manual recount. Should a manual recount be needed, this will begin immediately following the machine recount.
