Registered Voters Urged To Apply For Poll Worker Positions

Posted

DeLand, FL - It's just ten weeks until the 2020 Presidential Primaries. As always, Volusia County Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis is reminding people that the deadline to register to vote in the March 17 election is February 18. She said if you need to make corrections to your current voters registration or your party affiliation, you can do so online. This year, there are both a Democrat and a Republican primary. Lewis said the ballots have already been ordered. Lewis addressed the issue of people dropping out of the race after the ballots are printed by saying that if a candidate drops out, a notice will be posted in every voting booth on election day and also during early voting.

Lewis is also looking for registered voters to work as poll workers during early voting and on election day. The hours are long, she says poll workers are required to stay for up to 14 hours, but the pay is pretty good. Depending on the position you are working, you can earn between $185 and $275. You'll have to go for training but you get paid for that, too. If you want to apply, contact the Elections Office. If you're interested in being a poll watcher, Lewis suggests you contact either political parties' local groups to find out how.

There's still time to request a mail-in ballot for the upcoming election. Lewis says it's pretty easy to do. The ballots are mailed out about 40 days prior to the election. You can make your request by email, by fax or by calling in and asking for it. Lewis said that you can also request your mail-in ballot on the website, volusiaelections.org
