Scratch-off Ticket Winners Arrested On Drug Charges

Deltona, FL - A son and his mother, along with another woman, are facing multiple charges after the culmination of a criminal investigation by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. Detectives say 39-year-old Luis Correa and his mother, 59-year-old Migdalia Cruz told detectives they had just come from Orlando to collect the $20,000 prize from a winning scratch-off ticket. Then their luck changed. Also arrested is 34-year-old Dana LaFlamme.

Deltona Narcotics Enforcement Team detectives arrested the trio at a home located at 2675 Howland Boulevard after executing a search warrant on the residence around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (July 23). Cruz and Correa were standing outside the home when detectives arrived. Correa was found holding three bags of narcotics which tested positive for both heroin and fentanyl. LaFlamme was inside the home at the time.

During the search warrant investigation, detectives found more heroin as well as pills identified as a new legend drug, Hydromorphone, ecstasy/MDMA, suspected Xanax, cocaine residue, Clonazepam (schedule 4 substance), and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia.

All three were taken to Volusia County Jail. Correa is facing several possession charges and two charges of the Sale of Heroin within 1000 Feet of a School. He remains in jail on a $36,000 bond. Cruz is charged with one count of the Sale of Heroin within 1000 Feet of a School. She is out of jail on a $5,000 bond. LaFlamme, who has been arrested 15 times since 2013 in Volusia County, remains in jail with no bond set for a charge of violation of probation for possessing ammunition by a convicted felon.
