Search Warrant For Stolen Corvette Leads VSO To Major Drug Bust

New Smyrna Beach, FL - A search warrant served in reference to a stolen 2020 Corvette leads the Volusia Sheriff's Crime Suppression Team (CST) to a major drug bust.  Forty-seven-year-old Michael Mecke and his brother, 33-year-old Matthew Mecke are both facing Armed Trafficking of More than 25 Lbs of Cannabis, along with a number of other charges. 

When the search warrant was served on Dec. 3, 2021, at the home located at 148 Holly Hill Court, detectives found a "large" amount of cannabis in plain view. CST conducted a sweep of the entire home, finding large amounts of narcotics to include Cannabis and Cannabis extract/Hashish through the house. The initial search warrant for a stolen vehicle was amended to include narcotics.

When read their rights, both Michael and Matthew said they understood them but they did not want to talk to law enforcement in reference to the narcotics.

There are 56 items of the things that went into evidence. Close to 150 pounds of cannabis, over 160 pounds of various edibles, and a number of guns and ammunition were found spread through various rooms.  Investigators seized the Corvette they came for and three other vehicles that were on the property.

Michael Mecke is charged with Grand Theft of a Vehicle Uner $100,000 for the Corvette. He's also looking at two charges of Armed Trafficking of Cannabis Over 25 LBS, Possession of Psilocybin with Intent to Sell, Manufacture of Hashish, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Rent of a Structure or Conveyance for Drug Trafficking.  His total bond was $661,000 and he was out of the Volusia County Jail in less than 10 hours.

Matthew Mecke is charged with one count of Armed Trafficking of Cannabis Over 25 LBS, Possession of a Firearm by convicted In-State Felon, Manufacture of Hashish, and Possession of Paraphernalia.  His bond total came to $326,000 and he was out in under 14 hours.

The next day on the court docket is for arraignment for both of them on January 25, 2022.
