Daytona Beach, FL - Nicole Jackson, the 14-year-old girl accused of shooting at Volusia County deputies during a standoff in Enterprise, will also be detained in secure detention.
Jackson, who was recently released from the hospital, made her first appearance on Tuesday (June 8) in front of Judge Michael Orfinger—the same judge who presided over 12-year-old Travis O'Brien's first hearing—on Zoom. She also made her first appearance from the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Her first appearance was also conducted bedside as Jackson is still recovering from a gunshot wound she sustained during the incident.
Similar to a decision made at O'Brien's hearing, Jackson will remain in custody for 21 days, set to expire on June 23. Also similar to O'Brien's case, Judge Orfinger found probable cause to charge Jackson with attempted first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and armed burglary of an unocuppied dwelling.
The incident in question took place at a home in Enterprise after O'Brien and Jackson were reported missing from the First United Methodist Children's Home.
According to law enforcement, the pair broke into a home on Enterprise Osteen Road and fired at deputies with guns found inside the house as they tried to de-escalate the situation. Both juveniles continued to fire at law enforcement on and off for about 35 minutes.
At some point during the night, Jackson was seen stepping out of the home's garage, armed with a shotgun. After Jackson pointed the weapon at law enforcement, deputies opened fire and shot Jackson. She was taken to the hospital originally in critical condition, but later stabilized after further treatment.
Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said during a press conference that the medical help she received from deputies after she was shot helped save her life.
At this time, there is no indication on when Jackson's next court date is.
