Daytona Beach, FL - A driver is listed in critical and unstable condition following a serious crash that also injured a pedestrian off of Segrave Street.

The driver was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona as a trauma alert soon after paramedics arrived at the crash scene just adjacent to the Wawa gas station off of Ridgewood Avenue.

According to the Daytona Beach Police Department, units were called just before 3:30 Thursday morning (July 16th). Members of the Traffic Homicide unit arrived shortly thereafter to process the scene and talk to witnesses.

So far, investigators have determined that a 2006 Nissan Titan was driving northbound on Segrave when it veered into the oncoming lane. As the truck traveled in the wrong lane, it stuck a red 2002 Ford F250 that was parked on the side of the road.

After striking the truck, the Nissan struck a trailer attached to the back of the Ford. Two men were reportedly standing near the trailer, having a conversation when the Nissan struck both the Ford and the trailer.

Then, the Nissan crashed into a concrete pole head-on before coming to a stop in the southbound lane of Segrave.

Investigators report that the driver, who has only been described as a 59-year-old male, was not ejected from the vehicle despite not wearing his seat belt. The airbags also did not deploy in the vehicle.

The driver was rushed to Halifax Health as a trauma alert. He is currently listed in critical and unstable condition.

Paramedics also took one of the pedestrians – a 39-year-old man – to the hospital for a possible fracture in his hand. The other pedestrian, a 55-year-old male, was reportedly uncooperative with police and left the scene after refusing medical treatment. Detectives were unable to speak with him.

Messod Bendayan, spokesperson for DBPD, said in a release that charges may be filed upon the conclusion of the investigation. Police are also waiting on toxicology results.
