Palm Coast, FL - The Flagler County Sheriff's Office tracked down a sex offender for non-compliance after he didn't report his new residence.
And it probably didn't help that deputies had to use a boat to get him.
According to FCSO, 43-year-old Brian Thomas Roy was not living at the transient residence listed on his sex offender registration paperwork. By law, any transient sex offender is required to report in person to the Sheriff’s Office every thirty days. Roy last checked in on March 12th.
FCSO's investigation revealed that Roy instead was residing at a campsite on an island located in the Intracoastal Waterway across from Bings Landing.
Detectives tried to get in contact with Roy for an unrelated incident a week ago, but investigators say that he fled into the woods and hid instead.
Eventually, Roy was tracked to the island last Tuesday (April 21st) where he was subsequently arrested, thanks to the help of the FCSO Marine Unit and an airboat.
While in contact with Roy, he admitted to missing his thirty day check-in at the Sheriff’s Office but claimed he was not living on the island. When they were on the island, deputies say that they found an elaborate campsite complete with a tent, generator, and other living accommodations.
When deputies tried to arrest Roy, he attempted to flee by running away. After a brief foot pursuit, deputies were able to apprehend Roy.
He was booked at the Flagler County Jail, charged with failure to register as a sex offender and resisting arrest without violence. Roy is held without bond.
