Sheriff's Office Warns Of Possible Impersonator

Deltona, FL - The Volusia Sheriff's Office wants residents and drivers to be aware of a possible law enforcement impersonator.

VSO says they were tipped off yesterday (April 6th) by a Sanford woman. She claims that she was driving over I-4 on Saxon Boulevard just before noon when a white Ford car with blue lights – similar to those used on official Sheriff's Office vehicles – pulled her over.

The male suspect asked the woman for her identification and registration, which she provided. The suspect then asked if she was an "essential employee” and told her to exit her vehicle, which she did. When she stepped out, she was instructed to stand between her vehicle and his vehicle.

He asked if he could search her vehicle and she said yes. She repeatedly asked him what she had done to be pulled over, and he refused to answer.

While the suspect searched her vehicle, the victim made a phone call. As the phone call was in progress over her vehicle’s speakers via Bluetooth, the suspect stopped searching the vehicle, returned her license and registration and allowed her to leave.

After he left, the woman called VSO and reported the incident. She described the suspect as a black male, 6 feet tall, weighing 230 pounds with short black hair wearing black sunglasses. He wore a black short-sleeved shirt, black pants, a black belt with a silver buckle, and a badge hanging from a silver bead chain around his neck. He did not wear a gun, police radio or other law enforcement equipment.

VSO says that they want residents to be aware of this type of activity and report any similar incidents to law enforcement.
