Student Behind Father Lopez Threat Granted Bond

Daytona Beach, FL - The student charged with making video threats against his high school is granted bond by a judge.

At the Volusia County Branch Jail Courtroom on Tuesday (Feb. 8), 18-year-old Colin Boyer made his first appearance in front of a judge after he was charged with written threats to kill over videos he made about Father Lopez Catholic High School, where he is a senior. Since he had no prior criminal convictions, Judge Angela Dempsey granted Boyer a $5,000.

Initially, Boyer was to be held without bond until a hearing.

Boyer's arrest came after the Ormond Beach Police Department was made aware of two videos sent to Daytona Beach police by school officials. The videos, submitted by a concerned student, showed Boyer saying he could have a gang of people show up and shoot up the school. Police met him at his home on Monday (Feb. 7) and arrested him, charging Boyer with written threats to kill.

Boyer stated he had no intention of harming anyone and said he had a bad day when he made the videos. He added that he has a problem with a current school administrator who “comes at him.”

He is to remain in the Volusia County Jail unless he bonds out. It’s not know at this time when his next court date will be.
