UPDATE (10-24-19): The lockdown has been lifted.
Based on statements made by a student, a K-9 unit was dispatched to the school and cleared the suspicious item out of an abundance of caution.
The incident remains under investigation.

Port Orange, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Spruce Creek High School is under an active lockdown.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says that a suspicious item discarded in a trash can has prompted a lockdown at Spruce Creek High School.
The item was described as having wires coming from it and previously being concealed by a student. Deputies are awaiting the arrival of an EOD K-9.
