Teen Hit By Van Dies From Injuries

Daytona Beach, FL - A 15-year-old teen passed away from his injuries Saturday (March 27) after being hit by a van while riding his skateboard Friday (March 26) night. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center (HHMC) as a trauma alert then airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Madison Avenue and White Street. Daytona Beach Police (DBPD) found the teen lying on the road when they arrived. The driver of the van who hit the teen and a passenger called 9-1-1 and were on scene when police arrived.

Detectives say the van was heading east on Madison while the skateboarder was going north on White. They think the front of the van struck the skateboarder as both attempted to cross the intersection.

The investigation showed that the van driver likely had the green light, while the teen had the red light.  It also appears that the skateboarder was wearing dark-colored clothing and may have had headphones over his ears when he was struck by the van.

No injuries were reported by the van driver or his passenger. This is still an open investigation. The van was towed from the scene by DBPD for evidence processing. Charges will be determined once the investigation is complete.
