Town Center & FCSO Partner Up For License Plate Reader Installation

Palm Coast, FL - A new partnership between the Flagler County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) and the Town Center Community Development District (CDD) will bring license plate readers to another section of Palm Coast.

The cost of the project will be around $101,000, but it won't be the FCSO floating the whole bill. According to a press release from the agency, Town Center's CDD and Allete, Inc. will pay the costs associated with installing the new cameras, while the FCSO funds the monthly connection costs for the cameras.

The Town Center CDD approved the expenditure during a May 14 meeting, following a presentation by an FCSO sergeant.

This is another step in a private/public license plate reader partnership Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly has been working on with Allete and Douglas Development over the past year.

"As Town Center continues to attract high wage jobs and residents, we wanted to ensure Palm Coast remains safe for our visitors and residents," said Jeff Douglas of Douglas Development. "The Sheriff’s Office has had huge success with LPR’s and we thought this would be a great partnership."

According to FCSO, in 2020 alone, license plate readers resulted in 93 arrests, helped recover 51 stolen vehicles, led to 15 fugitive arrests, discovered 33 stolen tags, and found 9 missing persons. The FCSO began to implement license plate readers in 2018.

"We appreciate the partnership with Allete, Douglas Development and the Town Center CDD to enhance the safety and security of the Town Center area," said Sheriff Staly. "We’re glad to have another tool to advance our proactive and real-time crime-fighting techniques."
