Daytona Beach, FL - Members of the Daytona Beach Police Department and other local agencies kept busy over Labor Day weekend after scores of people and trucks hit the streets of Volusia County.

A report released by the DBPD Tuesday afternoon (September 8th) shows that their agency and other agencies around the county dealt with 1,130 traffic stops, handed out 831 citations (16 of them criminal), and issued 383 warnings.

55 arrests were also made with seven felony arrests. Additionally, 19 vehicles were towed by police.

Still, despite over 1,000 traffic stops and over 800 citations, this year's event didn't have as many incidents as others. In 2019, 1,855 citations were handed out while 2,131 were issued in 2018.

Arrests also went down in the following years. 2019 saw 9 felony arrests and 58 misdemeanor arrests while 2018 had 13 felonies and 64 misdemeanors.

The only uptick seen during this truck meet was the number of vehicles towed. In 2019, 13 were towed, but 22 were towed in 2018.

And according to Daytona Beach Police Chief Craig Capri, things went mostly according to plan.

"It’s not easy to organize and manage big event crowds under normal circumstances, much less in the middle of a pandemic," said Capri in a release from the DBPD. "We know these events can be aggravating at times, especially for beachside residents.

"We appreciate your cooperation, your understanding and any constructive criticism you’d like to share with us," added Capri.
