Daytona Beach, FL - Two people are charged for physically hitting a woman, kicking her in the back and firing a gun in her vicinity, all over a parking spot at Breakers Park.  Daytona Beach Police say 34-year-old Trung Mai and 30-year-old MyThiDiem Nguyen, both of Deltona, also had a young child in the backseat of their car.

The victim said she saw a parking space open up at Breakers Park Sunday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. Before she could pull into the space, she said Nguyen ran up and stood in the parking space as if to claim it. The victim pulled forward and Nguyen started beating on the driver's door and hood of the vehicle. The victim got out of her car and there was a verbal confrontation. The victim said Nguyen was pushing her with her fingertips in the upper torso-should area when she felt something hit her in the back. She said she curled into a fetal position and was struck seven or eight times. The victim said that was followed by a loud noise, which she thought might be a firecracker. When she turned around, she saw Mai holding a firearm. She said she believes the gun was directed toward her.

The victim's nephew called 9-1-1 but Nguyen and Mai were gone by the time police arrived. The nephew and an independent witness both corroborated the victim's account except they could not say where the gun was pointed when it was fired.

Less than five minutes after police arrived on scene, another officer spotted the 2014 black Infiniti on Main Street at South Coates Street. A felony traffic stop was conducted and the pair were taken into custody without incident. The two were positively identified by the victim, who pressed charges, and the independent witness.

Mai is charged with Aggravated Assault, Battery, and Child Abuse without Bodily Harm. His bond was set at $21,000. Nguyen is charged with Battery and Child Abuse without Bodily Harm. Her bond was set at $2,000. They have both made bail.
