Two COVID-19 Testing Sites To Open In Volusia County

Daytona Beach, FL - With a recent spike in COVID-19 cases and an increased demand for testing, Volusia County officials—in partnership with the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County and city partners—have contracted with private companies to open two testing sites within the area.

According to an email from the county, Curative, Inc.—a San Dimas, California-based healthcare startup—opened a site on Friday (September 3) at the Midtown Cultural and Educational Center in Daytona Beach. The site will be open between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is able to accommodate up to 600 tests per day.

Curative's Daytona Beach site will operate as an outdoor, walk-up site. Trained workers will be on-site observing and directing patients to complete a self-collected, shallow nasal PCR test. Testing is available for symptomatic and asymptomatic people ages one year and older. There is no charge, but patients will be asked for health insurance information; patients without health insurance will not be turned away. Results can be expected within 48 hours of the test (upon receipt at the lab). Per the county's email, testing will be offered as long as demand warrants.

Appointments are recommended and can be made through Curative's website or by calling 888-702-9042. Walk-ups will also be accommodated.

For those in west Volusia County, Nomi Heath—a Miami based healthcare company—will open a testing site at Dewey O. Boster Park in Deltona on Wednesday, September 8. The site will operate from noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning the following day. Appointments are recommended and can be made online (click here). Walk-ups will be accommodated.

Similar to Curative's site, this site will also operate as an outdoor, walk-up site. Clinical workers will be on-site to perform a shallow nasal PCR swab or rapid antigen test on patients. Again, tests are available for symptomatic and asymptomatic people ages one year and older.

Patients can expect PCR results within 24-48 hours while results from the rapid antigen test are available within 20-40 minutes. There is no charge for the test, but patients will be asked for health insurance information. Patients without health insurance will not be turned away.

Individuals are encouraged to wear a face mask while at either testing site.

The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to wear a face mask, wash your hands, and get a COVID-19 vaccine. If you're looking to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, be sure to visit the state health department's vaccine locator to find an opportunity closest to you.
