Astor, FL - Two men receive only minor injuries after their plane crashed in a remote lake in West Volusia County.

Deputies say the call for help went out just before 11 a.m. Thursday (July 16th) after a boater found the two male occupants sitting on top of their overturned plane. The boater told dispatchers that the two men seemed to have suffered only minor injuries.

According to the Volusia Sheriff's Office, the two men were practicing landings and takeoffs on the Volusia side of Lake Dexter before the crash occurred.

Both males were taken to AdventHealth in DeLand where they went under a medical evaluation.

Investigators from the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission are also present on the scene as they wait for investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Additionally, no hazards were found at the crash site as deputies learned the plane only had six gallons of fuel. It was also submerged in about five feet of water.

We will update this story once new information is available.
