Orange City, FL - Orange City leaders were forced to shut down a splash pad and a water line at Mill Lake Park after the park was vandalized.
And the city is not pleased about it, which is evident in a post on Orange City government's official Facebook page.
"This ultimately costs taxpayers and the city extra time and effort in labor and materials to ensure our parks are in working order for everyone to use," said the city in their Facebook post.
According to an incident report sent to News Daytona Beach by the Orange City Police Department, a jogger flagged down an officer early Tuesday morning (July 21st) at Mill Lake Park off of Holly Avenue. The jogger told the officer that it looked like someone shook the covers off of the lights around the park, as they were missing.
Additionally, when the officer check around the park, they also found two sprinkler heads that were broken and gushing water.
Later in the day, the city posted their statement on the vandalism and announced that the splash pad and restrooms would have to shut down, since a water line was also busted and had to be turned off.
"That water line is connected to the splash pad and restrooms and must be repaired before the water can be turned back on at the park," wrote the city.
An update from the city suggests that the splash pad could be up by Wednesday (July 22nd), but repairs on the water line could take until Thursday (July 22nd) to complete.
If anyone has information regarding the vandalism, they're urged to contact local authorities.
