VCBS Rescues More Than 150 People Over The Weekend

Daytona Beach, FL - Rough surf conditions kept Volusia County Beach Safety (VCBS) lifeguards busy this weekend. On Saturday, 66 people were rescued without issue. Yesterday, another 87 were pulled from the ocean without a problem, except for one.

Before lifeguard towers were open Sunday morning, a 22-year-old Jacksonville man went into the water in the 2700 Block S. The Beach in Daytona Beach Shores. Witnesses reported seeing him struggle and then going underwater. Bystanders were able to bring him to shore and initiate CPR. EMS arrived and transported him to the hospital. He was alive when taken to the hospital but there's no further word on his condition.
