VCC Chair Wants Buildings To Be Checked Every 10 Years

DeLand, FL - Volusia County Council Chair Jeff Brower wants the Council to consider re-inspections ten years after new construction and after 20 years, it should be every two years. His reasoning? From his Facebook page "We inspect every bridge in Volusia County every two years. Why not the same for multistory beachside structures?"

Brower wants to start a conversation about the issue and is expected to do so at the next meeting on July 20.

Re-inspections are not currently required in Volusia County or by the Florida Building Code. Condo buildings are typically jointly owned by the residents and governed by associations that levy special assessments to fund the cost of repairs.
