VCC Dealt Another Blow In Amendment 10 Battle

DeLand, FL - The Volusia County Council's court fight against Amendment 10 was dealt another blow today when the First District Court of Appeal found that Amendment 10 does apply to Volusia County. The Amendment creates a local government of constitutional officers who are directly accountable to the people who elect them.  Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood said in a Facebook post today (August 17), "Your Power-Hoarding County Council, led into this battle by former County Manager Jim Dinneen, former County Attorney Dan Eckert and soon-to-be former County Chair Ed Kelley, is still batting .000 when it comes to fighting Amendment 10."

Chitwood also said that the minority on the County Council who accepted the results of the vote to approve Amendment 10, Heather Post, Ben Johnson, and Barbara Girtman, should "feel vindicated today."

In closing, he said, "The old days are behind us. We're on the verge of a new kind of government in Volusia County where the voice of the people matters. As Sheriff, I can tell you we are ready for it."
