VCC Honors Kelley & Denys At Their Final Meeting

DeLand, FL - The final meeting of the Volusia County Council heard proclamations for two outgoing members naming December 15, 2020, as their days, respectively Ed Kelley Day and Deb Denys Day.

Dr. Fred Lowery, Vice-Chair and District 5 Representative, made the proclamations after the 55-item consent agenda was approved.

While Denys alluded to her recent loss in the County Chair race last month, saying that people don't know what a family goes through during a political campaign, she said better days are ahead. "Volusia County, our better days are yet ahead, I really believe that, and I will be making those solid, strong comments on all of the good things in Volusia County that we've done, that we will do because Volusia County is the land of possibilities."

Retiring Chair Ed Kelley, who's served in that capacity for the last four years, said he was asked if he wanted his day to be December 16. His answer was no. "I'd want to share it with Deb. There's no one I'd rather share this day with it being recognized as Deb Denys and Ed Kelley Day. We worked together. We served together. We made a difference together and we're both going to miss being here."

The next Volusia County Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 7, at which time new council members will be sworn in.
