Veterans Encouraged To Visit Volusia County Veterans Services Division

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - Director of Veterans Services in Volusia County Bob Watson wants veterans to know there are numerous things they can get help with. He said if we can't help you, we have other resources.

Watson says that one of the agency's biggest issues is getting the word out to veterans and their surviving spouses. "Volusia County Veterans Services has four offices: in DeLand, in Daytona, in New Smyrna, and then one in Orange City. All four offices are open from 8 to 5, Monday through Friday." You can make an appointment by calling either 386-740-5102 or 386-254-4646 at any of the offices.

Office locations:

DeLand:
123 W. Indiana Ave., Room 100, DeLand

Orange City:
775 Harley Strickland Blvd., Suite 104, Orange City

New Smyrna Beach:
717 W Canal St., New Smyrna Beach

Daytona Beach:
1845 Holsonback Drive, Daytona Beach

Watson highly suggests that if you have never sat down with a veterans benefits counselor that you do so as soon as you can. "We take care of veterans pretty much in every area. We can help with VA claims, compensation claims, pension claims.  We also are quite aware of all the local resources, including state resources."

When asked about housing resources for veterans living on fixed incomes, Watson said they can help with that. He said if someone has issues with housing, they should come into a Veterans Affairs Office and get some guidance down the proper path. Watson says you owe it to yourself to find out what help is available. He also said if someone tries to charge you to help in getting veterans benefits, "don't walk away, run away from them and come into one of our offices. There's no charge. It's intended to be a free service and it is here in Volusia County."
