VIDEO: Drone Spots Armed Suspect Leaving Victim's Home

Deltona, FL - A suspect's flight to freedom is cut short after his attempted escape is caught from the air by a drone.

Deputies with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office were at a house on Urbana Avenue just before 7:00 a.m. on Monday (Feb. 14) escorting a woman who was threatened by someone just hours earlier. Deputies say someone had texted her that he was headed to her house to shoot her.

The woman stayed somewhere else for the night for her safety, and deputies followed her home to make sure the home was clear before she went back inside. However, when deputies made announcements at the front door, another deputy operating a drone watched as someone left the house through a back window before hopping a fence.

Multiple deputies went after the suspect, leading to the arrest of Johnathan Hernandez, who was found to have a loaded pistol in his backpack. He’s now facing charges of armed burglary, making written threats to kill or do bodily injury, and resisting an officer without violence. He remains in jail as of Tuesday morning (Feb. 15) on $20,500 bond.
