Volusia County Early Voter Turnout Highest Ever

Posted

DeLand, FL - Voter turnout in Volusia County on the first day of early voting in 2020 was the highest ever since its inception in 2004. That's according to Lisa Lewis, Volusia County Supervisor of Elections.  The first day saw 9,601 ballots cast and yesterday, just 10 votes less with 9,591 ballots.

Deltona City Hall saw the highest turnout on both days while Lewis says the newest early voting location saw the least.  "It's Midtown Cultural Center. It is at 925 George W. Engram Boulevard. It's a nice open gym, lots of space in there. I know it's new so people aren't used to it yet so we're trying to promote it because we want it to be used."

As of yesterday's numbers, there have been 95,790 vote-by-mail ballots returned. Add that to the early voting totals and you get a turnout of more than 25 percent.

In Flagler County, some voters reported receiving intimidating emails about who they should vote for.  Lewis says nothing like that's been reported. "We've got some aggressive campaigners but I've made calls to both of the parties and they're curtailing that. I hope not to hear any more about it but you never know."
